Happy 50th(?) LEGO!

I've been meaning to blog about this for literally months now, and it seems like I have finally gotten around to it. And it's been bugging me the whole time! Well, anytime it comes up of course.

So, Lego is celebrating their 50th birthday this year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I grew up with Legos and to this day still have a house and a few vehicles assembled and kept in a shoe box in my closet. One way of celebrating is by including a commemorative golden brick in certain boxes (or something like that). Pretty sweet! The confusion - I have a silver brick that commemorated a 25th anniversary. The silver brick was made in my lifetime, and I'm not 25 yet, so something here isn't adding up...

It was time to research Lego.
Just so we're on the same page, 50 years ago = 1958. Got it? Cool, lets move on.
According to the time line on Lego's official website, 1958 was the year "The current LEGO stud-and-tube coupling system is patented. The new coupling principle makes models much more stable." So it seems we are celebrating 50 years of the Lego brick as we know it. Fair enough, makes sense to me.

FYI: According to Wikipedia, LEGO is taken from the Danish phrase leg godt, which means 'play well'. So play well with your Legos, ok?

Where was I? Ah, 50 years of the Lego brick. So the bricks made in 1958 will actually connect with pieces made in 2008. That's pretty neat. So what about that silver brick that I had determined was the VCR in my created Lego dwelling?

From what I have come across on a few places on the web, I have determined the silver brick in question was released in 1998. Ten years ago. Certainly 1998 wasn't the 25th anniversary of the brick if 2008 is the 50th. Hm, 1998-25= 1973. Back to the Lego time line!

This time I didn't come up with a very clear answer. Lego says...

1973
A single new LEGO logo replaces the various logos that have been used until now. The new LEGO logo unifies all the company's products under one banner.
First sales to Eastern Europe (Hungary)
LEGO USA established in Brookfield, Connecticut.
LEGO Portugal established.
German psychologist Karin Grossmann writes the book "Mach mehr aus LEGO". It is a study of 200 children and their play with LEGO bricks.

Selected Product News 1973
LEGOLAND ships
The London Bus
Doll's house units, together with furniture components

So.... 25 years of the Lego logo? Looking at a picture of a 1998 bucket containing the silver brick, it says '25 years of building imaginations.'

I'm still unclear of what they were celebrating in 1998, but I do have the sweet silver brick so it may not be worth all the questioning I am giving it. Now I just need a GOLD brick.....

Learning is Fun!

The Wrestling Mayhem Show has a tradition where the show closes with everybody sharing what they have learned from wrestling within the past week. I have decided that I learned so much this week in wrestling, that it is worthy of its very own list. So I'm gonna list away!

What I learned from IWC this week is...

-> that Delirious likes Hentai's style.
-> that loving a title belt makes you a pervert.
-> that Sami Callihan lives on the last house on the left. And he will kill Darth Vader.
-> that the IWC entranceway needs to have a built in metal detector.
-> that Chuck Roberts does a nice JBL impression.
-> that J-Rocc and Shane Taylor don't match.
-> that 9-year-olds don't have to know what a suplex is, but should be able to use the word asshole.
-> that Larry Sweeney is now just sour.

What I learned from WWE this week is...

-> that Festus uses a Mariachi Band to show his romantic feelings.
-> that I can't understand Kizarny.
-> that Funaki is kung fu fighting.
-> that you can get a gimmick makeover after years of practically not existing (see: Funaki).
-> that Khali has more game than Primo.
-> that RAW RETURNS TO PITTSBURGH ON DECEMBER 15TH!
-> that Goldust does not like cross dressers.
-> that Jericho looks good in a suit even without a title belt on his shoulder.

Looking at this list, I would say what I learned in wrestling is much more interesting than what I learned in any of my classes this week. You really can learn so much from the world of sports-entertainment!

The Little Things in Life

Hiya peoples!
I realized two super awesome things today! Don't worry, I'll share:

1. This past weekend at my street's block party (yes my street is that cool), I acquired a candy dispenser similar to a Pez dispenser, but instead it uses Sweet Tarts. And just like Pez dispensers, it's got a fun little character on top. This one happens to be a penguin, which in itself is all kinds of awesome. I've been treating it like a Pez dispenser, and slowly letting the candy come out, but today... I see the side of the label says "Warning: Do not aim at eyes or face." My brain churns for a minute, and I think 'aim? You can aim this thing?' THEN - I come to the ultimate realization that this thing FLINGS CANDY! Now if you had something like that you can't tell me it wouldn't just make your day, right? Right! So needless to say I've been firing Sweet Tarts at people for the rest of the day. Be jealous. =)

2. My brother bought Rockband 2 on Monday, and first of all the injustice is that it took me two whole days before I played it!!! But, no fear, I did play it earlier today. The gameplay is essentially the same as Rockband, which I have no complaints about cause there wasn't really anything wrong with that. One of the amusing (to me at least) new things is that there are more pre-developed characters that have names and everything this time. (American Johnny is pretty sweet.) In between playing songs, I was glancing at the game box and saw something along the lines of 'works with most game instruments.' I figure, let's try the Guitar Hero 3 guitar and see what happens. And wouldn't you know... IT WORKS!!! Day made all over again right there!!! This means that I can use the Guitar Hero 3 guitar to play Rockband, which is awesome because A) I prefer that to the feel of the Rockband guitar and B) we can now have a four-person band instead of just three. WIN! I'm very excited about future rock sessions now. =)

My getting ROCKBAND 2 is worthy of a post all it's own really. 84 new songs and we've signed up to get 20 free bonus ones to download in the near future. And in addition to that we threw down the five bucks to import all our Rockband songs onto the Rockband 2 game. So once we get crackin and unlock more songs on the new game, the available song list will be GINORMOUS!

"I WANNA ROCK!"

Thanks for sharing my excitement. Now I gotta 'grow up' and do schoolwork. Peace out homies!

A Word from our Sponsors

The third and the fifth are my favorites. =)
And yeah, that's actually all I have to say right now.
Aren't you glad I blog?!

Rock 'n' Wrestling

I <3 Rockband. Those of you who know me pretty well already know that. If you didn't, now you do. I also love wrestling. You might have known that already too. HOWEVER - I have recently been thinking about how awesome it would be to combine two of my favorite things. And no, I'm not talking about having the bands in the game break up and have Hardcore matches. I'm talking about playing some of the awesome entrance themes in the game! Teriffic idea, right?

So without further ado, here's what I have come up with over the past couple of days:
(Don't sue me if I don't know if the song has a title/artist.)

"Just Close Your Eyes" - Waterproof Blonde (Christian WWE theme)
"Burn in My Light" - Mercy Drive (WWE Randy Orton)
AJ Styles - TNA theme (old version)
"King of Kings" - Motorhead (WWE Triple H)
"Frontline" - Pillar (IWC Theme)
"Live for the Moment" - Monster Magnet (WWE Matt Hardy)
"Mainlining Murder" -
Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards (Sterling James Keenan)
"With Legs Like That" - Zebrahead (WWE Maria)
WWE Maven
"Painted by Numbers" - The Sounds (Johnny Gargano)
"Wanna be Loved" - Papa Roach (WWE Raw)
"Slow Chemical" - Finger Eleven (WWE Kane)
"Real American" - Hulk Hogan WWE theme

That's really only a small sample of what could be on there, but my time is limited. I'm sure there's many other good ones, so let me know what you can come up with. And keep an eye out for the Guitar Hero Goes Wrestling edition, for the themes with little to no vocals but killer guitar riffs.

Rock on. \m/

Friday Five: Poppin My Blog Cherry!

I gave in to the peer pressure...
That's why you're seeing this now. I gave in and signed up for one of these things. We'll see what happens. I figured a Friday Five would be an easy start!

So BOOM, here we go:

1. Who lets you have your way more than you should?

My best friend. Especially when we were younger. Now that we're older it's more equal but I think I was kinda selfish for a while.

2. According to the cliche, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but what’s the way to yours?

Humor. Or an acoustic guitar. Or abs. ;)

3. What’s something that should have been put away but hasn’t been?

My clean laundry.

4. When did you last weigh yourself?

Ummm probably last time I went to the doctor's. So I'd say it's been a few months.

5. What do the cops in the donut shop say?

Blah blah blah DONUTOS, blah blah, MUNCHKINOS.
-Naturally, points to those that recognize the joke there. =)
